Collection consists of photographs taken and mounted in a scrapbook by Helen Louise Bailey. The photographs primarily depict the Bailey family and friends, students enrolled at Centenary College of Louisiana, and scenes in and around Shreveport, Louisiana. This includes images of Shreveport's Highland neighborhood, Centenary College
campus, and Louisiana State Fairgrounds. Some photographs were taken in other Louisiana communities nearby: Forbing, Oil City, Alexandria, and Louisiana College (Pineville). For many photographs, handwritten captions identify people and places.
Helen Louise Bailey Leverett was the daughter of Elmer E. and Gertrude Bailey. Her siblings were Ralph (b. 1899) and Dorothy Bailey Lynch (1905-1979). In 1918, Louise enrolled in Centenary College of Louisiana’s high school department (also known as the preparatory department or the Centenary Academy); she graduated in 1920. Her sister Dorothy was also enrolled in Centenary’s high school department. During this time, the Bailey family lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, at 737 Merrick Street, then moved to 2126 Creswell Avenue. In 1921, Louise married Flynt Leverette, and they had a daughter, Elaine (b. 1922).
